The 9-Step Ship Recycling Methodology

Zero Pollution from Vessel Arrival to Certified Green Steel Delivery

The FoilDock Safe Recycling Cycle is a patented 9-step ship dismantling methodology that takes every Panamax vessel from dock entry through certified scrap delivery — with zero marine discharge at any stage. Each step is sequenced to eliminate contamination risk before the next begins. The result is an ISO 30000-certified, Hong Kong Convention-compliant process that produces 720,000+ metric tons of 99.0%-pure green steel scrap per year at single-shift capacity.

The Complete 9-Step Cycle

Each Step Eliminates a Specific Risk — None Are Optional

Every vessel processed at FoilDock Panama follows the full 9-step methodology — a documented, auditable sequence aligned with HKC, EU SRR, and ISO 30000.

01

Precision Vessel Positioning

The Panamax vessel is guided into the 320 m × 60 m dock under automated winch control. Exact positioning above the keel blocks creates a rigid, level platform — the stable foundation that every subsequent step depends on.

02

Hazardous Material Survey & Extraction

Certified specialists survey and extract all asbestos, NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material), oily sludge, and stored chemicals before any structural work begins. Every hazard is removed at the source, eliminating the contamination risk that undermines conventional beaching from day one.

03

Foil Basin Deployment & Controlled Drainage

The patented Foil Basin — a fully impermeable containment liner — is deployed beneath the vessel. Water is then pumped out in a controlled sequence: all oily water and residues are captured within the basin. Zero discharge reaches the marine environment. This step is the physical guarantee behind FoilDock's zero-pollution claim.

04

Bow-to-Stern Hull Sectioning

Inside the dry, contained dock, the hull is precision-cut into 20 m segments working systematically from bow to stern. Without tidal interference, crews maintain consistent daily output — the throughput rhythm that sustains 72+ vessels per year.

05

SPMT Heavy-Section Transport

Each hull segment — up to 1,500 metric tons — is transferred from the dock floor to the processing yard via Self-Propelled Modular Trailers. Automated transport removes workers from load paths and eliminates improvised rigging, the most common source of injury in conventional yards.

06

Structural Flattening for Safe Internal Access

Segments are laid flat at dedicated processing stations. Workers access every internal compartment from ground level — confined-space entry and working at height are eliminated. Internal components and secondary materials are separated and staged for certified disposal or recovery.

07

Secondary Cutting to Mill Specifications

Hull steel is precision-cut to the standard sizes specified by Electric Arc Furnace operators. Consistent geometry and grade sorting at this stage is what achieves the 99.0% purity specification — and the premium it commands on international scrap markets.

08

Certified Hazardous Waste Disposal

All hazardous waste streams — asbestos, NORM, oily residues, heavy metals — are routed to licensed disposal or recycling facilities with full chain-of-custody documentation. Nothing leaves the facility without a certified disposal record, satisfying HKC, EU SRR, and ISO 30000 audit requirements.

09

Certified Green Steel Delivery

Sorted, graded steel scrap at 99.0% purity is dispatched directly to steel mills for Electric Arc Furnace input. Each delivery is traceable to the originating vessel, providing EAF operators with the documented provenance that green steel certification programmes require.

An Environmental Guarantee

Not a Policy Statement — A Structural Outcome

The FoilDock 9-step methodology does not aim for reduced pollution — it engineers zero discharge as a structural outcome. The patented Foil Basin physically prevents any residue reaching the marine environment. Sequenced decontamination means workers never enter a live-contamination zone. And continuous environmental monitoring produces the documented evidence that port authorities, flag states, and ESG investors require.

  • 100% residue capture — enforced by the Foil Basin containment liner, not by procedure alone
  • Hazmat extraction before structural dismantling — contamination eliminated at the source
  • SPMT transport of sections up to 1,500 tonnes — automated handling, zero manual rigging risk
  • 99.0%-pure green steel output — traceable from vessel to Electric Arc Furnace delivery
  • Full audit trail — every waste stream documented for HKC, EU SRR, and ISO 30000 compliance
ISO 30000 Certified — Hong Kong Convention Compliant — EU SRR Aligned
